Letter to Administrators
Aug. 18, 2011
Dear Principal or Administrator:
The Commercial Appeal is happy to announce the sixth year of the C Spire Academic All-Stars program. Our goal is to honor high school students in the Memphis metro area for academic excellence, leadership and community involvement.
If you nominated students last year, I hope you will continue this year. If you didn't, you and your students missed out on a great opportunity. There are deserving students in every school. We want to recognize them, but we can't, if they are not nominated. There were weekly winners from 44 different high schools last year. It was fantastic. But we're eager to increase participation with your help.
Please pass this on to the administrator at your school who can accomplish this or let me know and I'll send them a packet. The website is set up and ready to go. All you have to do is go to http://academicallstars.commercialappeal.com and submit your nominations with students' photos.
The nominations will be in 10 academic areas. In addition to the nomination form, the website contains the list of categories, category definitions, and a calendar of deadlines and profiles of past winners.
The first deadline for nominations is Friday, Sept 16. The categories for the first judging period are General Scholarship, Foreign Language and Art. Nominations must be submitted by Fri., Sept. 16.
On Sunday, October 2, The Commercial Appeal will recognize a C Spire Academic All-Star in the newspaper from each of seven geographic zones. The program will run for 28 consecutive weeks during the school year. Each Academic All-Star and his or her parents will be invited to the end-of-the-year awards banquet to be held Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Hilton Memphis. At that event, overall C Spire Academic All-Stars will be announced in 10 academic disciplines.
I urge you to participate in this program. If you have any questions, please call me at 901-529-2508 or email me at brownmarylou@commercialappeal.com.
Sincerely,
Mary Lou Brown
